Cybersecurity and data protection in healthcare

THE HUN-REN SZTAKI, HunCERT and ISZT jointly organized by HunCERTalks cybersecurity meetup series season finale July 2, 2025 was held in the Innovation and Demonstration Space of HUN-REN SZTAKI's Lágymányosi Street building. This time, the focus was on healthcare cybersecurity issues and the responsible use of anonymized healthcare data.

First Dr. Anna Banati, assistant professor and research leader at Óbuda University, gave a presentation on cybersecurity challenges in higher education in healthcare. He highlighted that the digitalization of medicine brings new threats for which both education and institutions must be prepared. He emphasized the need to launch cybersecurity training courses and the downsides of technological development.

Dr. Tamás Palicz, Deputy Director of Strategy at the Health Management Training Center of Semmelweis University, spoke about the vulnerability of healthcare institutions. In his presentation, he emphasized that cyberattacks require pre-developed protocols just like any other emergency – including the immediate use of traditional, analog systems.

To close the meetup Esther Satmari, a researcher at the HUN-REN SZTAKI Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory, presented the data security aspects of aging research. As a member of the BioAgeAI group, he explained that research based on artificial intelligence requires huge, often sensitive data sets. The ethical handling of anonymous data is therefore a serious challenge not only from a technical but also from a social and legal perspective.

The first season of the HunCERTalks meetup series concluded with this event. The continuation is expected in September 2025. More details coming soon.
